Original drawing signed by Robert Carrizey. 147 notes that he showed a great talent for drawing from a very young age. The son of a bookbinder, he initially worked as a notary’s clerk before becoming a professional cartoonist. He enjoyed his greatest success during the Second World War, through his call-up, the fall of France and his demobilization. A member of the Société des Humoristes, he exhibited at the Humoristes Sportifs, Satire and Humour 42 exhibitions. In a tribute, Pierre Mac Orlan wrote: “A quiet kindness seems to be the essence of Robert Carrizey’s humour. There is something Latin about him, an elusive, secret grace that runs through all his innocently comic and delightfully unadorned work.” Among the many publications to which he contributed were Le Pèle-Mèle, Le Journal Amusant, Paris qui rit, L’Assiette au Beurre and La Jeunesse Illustrée.
