Benjamin RABIER (1864 - 1939), French comic book author. Original ink drawing on paper, 39 x 28.3 cm, signed and titled "Three Fables," annotated in pencil "color" at the top left, numbered 23 at the bottom of the drawing. Good condition, creases at the top right corner, four pinholes at the corners.

Benjamin Rabier tells us three fables. The misadventures of a pigeon whose nest falls from the tree caught by a gust of wind.

At the foot of the tree, it comes face to face with a pig who, despite its warnings, devours the chicks. The second fable gives a revised version of La Fontaine's fable, The Ant and the Grasshopper, and finally, the third fable recounts the misadventures of a fish, which is snatched up by a heron while desperately hoping to open an oyster at the bottom of the pond. Benjamin Rabier is considered one of the major animal cartoonists of the 20th century.

He is and remains famous for creating the logo of the cheese "The Laughing Cow," and for his iconic character Gédéon the duck. The two great figures of comic books, Walt Disney and Hergé, were inspired by his universe.
