This is the original artwork for page 1 of the comic “La Pyramide oubliée” (“The Forgotten Pyramid”), published in issue 5 of Circus. This page does not appear in the original comic book edition.
The final panel has come unstuck, revealing an earlier version that was never published. Both panels need to be glued back onto the page. The title in the upper left is missing, but the name Winninger is visible. In 1979, he created “Le Jardin sanglant,” written by Henri Filippini, for Pilote; it was later published as an album by Dargaud. He then created “Nicéphore Vaucanson” for Okapi.
From 1987 onward, Wininger, who also illustrated children’s books, devoted himself to adapting numerous novels for “Je Bouquine.” He illustrated works by Oscar Wilde, Conan Doyle, Calvino, Carroll, Balzac, Faulkner, Shelley, Stevenson, Saint-Exupéry, Du Maurier, Charlotte Brontë, and others.
Beautiful original comic art page from 1978 by Pierre de Winninger, from “La Pyramide oubliée.
